Beachwood, OH - Internet’s popular online directory, search engine and web portal, Yahoo!, recently launched a new series called “People of the Web.”  The series highlights some of the most interesting people on the Internet.  One of the first people Yahoo! focused on was Jerry Miller of Beachwood, Ohio. 

Jerry is the founder of FarmersOnly.com, a dating website that has quickly become THE way for farmers, ranchers, country folks, and down-to-earth people who cherish the rural lifestyle to meet.  Launched May 15, 2005, FarmersOnly.com is growing at an incredible pace, now with over 60,000 members in all 50 states and Canada.

Jerry is partner of Brown and Miller Advertising, whose client list includes the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association.  Jerry works with over 4,000 farms and ranches across the country.  While talking to one farmer, Jerry made quite a discovery.

“Recently divorced, she expressed her frustration of how difficult it was to meet someone new,” Jerry recalled. 

“I’m ready to give up!”  She said.  “How am I going to meet someone working on a farm all day? I already know everybody who lives around here… which isn’t many people!  Maybe I’ll try online dating.” 

A month later, Jerry asked her how her luck was with online dating. She replied, even more frustrated, “The men who have been contacting me don’t understand the lifestyle of a farmer,” she told Jerry.  “They don’t have a clue!”  Thus came the site’s slogan… “City Folks Just Don’t Get It!” 

Now curious, Jerry started doing some internet searches and couldn’t find one national dating site truly designed for farmers.

Being in marketing, he wanted to see if there was a need for a new site. “I talked to farmers and ranchers all over the country and discovered they all had the same problems.  They already knew everybody in their immediate areas.  They didn’t have enough time to socialize. When they did find time, they didn’t want to hang out at a bar.  They wanted to find someone who understood their lifestyle,” he said.  “The need for this new online dating service became very clear and six months later, I launched FarmersOnly.com.” 

FarmersOnly.com isn’t limited to just farmers.  However, those who become members must respect farmers and ranchers and understand the lifestyle of small town and country folks.  “We have members that are animal and nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, … even some city folks who grew up in the country and want to return to that lifestyle,” said Jerry.  “This is the place for America’s Heartland, coast to coast, to meet.”
