Here we go....a bit about me. Independent and self-sufficient in the Back-to-the-Land kind of way. Was raised on a Dairy farm in Michigan. I am trying to turn 5 East Central Texas acres into a small Hobby Farm and it\'s no fun doing it alone. So far about 3/4 of the fences are up, the garden is in place but it\'s very clay-ey. Have been working on that. Have planted a total of 26 fruit trees over the last 3 years... 5 have survived the Texas springs and summers. That dratted clay!!! Have 3 mature pecan trees doing well. Will get a crop this year from the nectarine and the pecans (a \'crop\' being more than one piece of \"fruit\" right?). Did get one peach, which I ate straight from the tree!, and 3 small clusters of green grapes (which went the way of the peach). Canned around 4 dozen pints of green beans and a dozen dill pickles, have an odd number of half pints of dewberry, peach, and black cherry jam. This having to \'work\' off the farm for a living is really slowing me down ON the farm!!! Have a sweet 2 acre pasture with a small tank and a deep grove of Oak trees all ready for cattle but am not sure what kind of cattle I want. Was thinking the miniatures.... easier on the land and easier for one person to manage, but they\'re pricey.... Oh, well... we shall see....
