I am a small time farmer, got my ass kicked a few years ago in the hog industry. It was a third generation hog farm. The doors had to be shut down, the prices just werent there. I don\'t mind not making money at times, but losing money...It just doesn\'t work. We also grain farmed 2500 acres, I pulled the pin on that too. My dad got into a bad farm accident and his health was more important to me than the farm at that point.
I have rented my land out for the past three years. I only have 400 acres left. Currently I am slowly buying equipment back, paying cash for everything. I want a girl who has the same passion I have for the family farm.
Currently I still raise pigs and chickens, I raise them with the same guidelines as organic producers but will not get certified. I believe any time the government has a role in any type of farming venture they just screw it up. I sell to individual people, tryiing to get into large farmers markets and high end restraunts.
