A Little Bit Country, a Little Bit Rock and Roll

A couple of years after moving from California back to her hometown of Chicago to care for her mother, Gina found herself a bit lonely. She had tried several different dating sites in the past, but hadn’t found what she was looking for.

One day while sitting in her room feeling sorry for herself, she looked up and saw a commercial that said “You don’t have to be lonely at FarmersOnly.com” and decided to give it a try. Though a self-proclaimed “city girl” at heart, she was not interested in “suits” and described herself as “a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll” - so it seemed like a good option to switch it up.

Staying true to her fun sense of humor, Gina’s profile picture was nothing but her left eye, and her bio had a long list of do’s and don’ts.

She says, “Once I posted that silly written profile, I had so many responses. It was ridiculous but I was having fun. Mind you I had been single for 16 years and not a spring chicken, but I was an experienced online dater.”

One of the responses, in May of 2016, was from a man named Denny.

For their first date they met up for lunch, which ended up lasting 3 hours. On the way back to Gina’s car, Denny took her hand as they walked in silence, looking at each other every now and then, sparking smiles. She says she knew then that he was “the one”.

The duo is adventurous, and they love to travel, garden, and are both organized. A perfect match!

After dating for 3 ½ years, Denny proposed on December 25 of 2019. When he went down on one knee, unbeknownst to Gina he was recording the whole thing. She was completely shocked and describes it as “totally emotional and magical!” While they haven’t set a date just yet, they are considering a destination wedding.

Gina explains, “For me it’s the last run. I’m a lady in the twilight of her life, and that I found love and happiness is amazing to me. I was married for 30 years, raised 5 kids, have 21 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Am I blessed? You bet. Am I lucky? VERY!”
